A car that drives smooth around town but shakes on I-95 or the Sawgrass is telling you something specific. Highway-speed vibration almost always traces back to one of a few causes — and where you feel it is the first clue.
Felt in the steering wheel: tires and balance
An out-of-balance front tire shakes the wheel in your hands, typically starting around 55–65 mph. A lost wheel weight is enough to do it. This is the most common and cheapest fix on the list — and ignoring it wears your tires and suspension faster.
Felt in the seat: rear tires or driveline
If the shake comes through the seat more than the wheel, look to the rear tires' balance or a tire developing a defect — a separated belt or a flat spot. A tire that's failing internally can look fine from outside, which is why we spin and inspect them.
Only when braking: rotors
If the vibration only shows up when you brake from highway speed, that's classic warped or unevenly worn brake rotors — see our brake repair service.
All the time, getting worse: suspension and steering wear
Worn tie rods, ball joints, or bushings let the wheels move in ways they shouldn't, and potholes around Broward County don't help. This kind of looseness also eats tires through bad alignment, so it compounds.
Quick tip: Note the speed where the shake starts and whether it's in the wheel or the seat — those two details cut the diagnosis time in half.
